Staycations Are Good For You & Your Family!

Staycations Are A Great Addition to Your Self-Love Routine. No Passport Required!

I’m often asked what’s a staycation and is that a word I made up.  No it’s not a word I made up, it’s real (lol)!  They are a great way to de-stress and let your mind, body and soul rejuvenate with a little or a lot of travel involved.  It’s totally up to you!

The official definition of staycation is…

stay·ca·tion (pronounced ‘stāˈkāSHn’) noun – informal

definition:  a vacation spent in one’s home country rather than abroad, or one spent at home and involving day trips to local attractions.

I love staycations because they are a great way to de-stress without breaking the bank. There are several types of staycations I suggest to friends and fellow travelers.  They are:  family staycations, couples’ staycations, BFF staycations and solo staycations.

Break up the family’s weekend routine with a family staycation to fun and cool places. Enjoy a family day at the zoo, local museum or a theme park complete with dinner at your family’s favorite restaurant. Couples’ staycations are one of my favorites.  They are great ways to celebrate a birthday or an anniversary and spend quality time with that someone special.  My favorite options for couples’ staycations include a night/day at a bed & breakfast, a day at your favorite spa coupled with a fab lunch & shopping spree.

Sometimes you need a day all to yourself or with your friends to do just what you want, to get away from your daily grind and hustle.  That’s where a solo & BFF staycation comes in.  When I feel the walls closing in and I can’t take a getaway, I plan a solo staycation.  My favorite things to do are to go shopping/window shopping (lol), go to my favorite salon for a mani & a pedi or facial.  A day/night at a fabulous local hotel is another one of my favorite staycation ideas.  I love wrapping up my solo staycation with a fabulous dinner at one of my favorite restaurants. If I need to catch up with one of my friends we plan a BFF staycation at our favorite spa or day trip up to Atlantic City.

Why are staycations beneficial?  Everyone needs a break from the stress of their daily routine aka a personal day if you will.  Staycations help us to collect our thoughts and let our body, mind and soul rejuvenate without traveling a thousand miles away.  Vacations are fabulous but you don’t always have the time or funds to plan a full out vacation.  That’s when a staycation is just what the doctor ordered. They are quick, easy to plan, fun and budget friendly.

If you listed ‘self-love’ as part of your 2017 resolutions, a staycation is a great first step in your self-love routine.  Here are  a few more staycation ideas that you can add to your self-love routine.

Have you taken a staycation?  What activities would you enjoy on a staycation?

  1. We take staycations all the time. It is so cool because our teens can just chill and have limited rules.

  2. Staycations are definitely great for destressing. Sometimes we still need a getaway even when the budget says we need to stay. Close to home is better than never leaving.
