There’s no doubt that we are living in a fabulous age of technology. Gadgets we saw and dreamed of in popular TV shows like the Jetsons and Star Trek the Next Generation are fastly becoming our reality. I am convinced that the iPad was inspired by the tablet Captain Picard often used in his office on Star Trek TNG. The next futuristic gadget also comes from Apple of course (lol). The Apple Watch has been announced and is set to take our breath away on April 24th! Pre-ordering starts today!!
There will be 38 available models over 3 collections (sport, gold edition and watch collections pictured). All collections feature beautiful and functional varieties of bands and beautiful scratch resistant sapphire crystals. Some models are available in stainless steel, black stainless steel and lightweight aluminum (in silver or space gray). The ‘Edition’ collection features the beautiful but pricey gold and rose gold editions that are simply stunning. From the watch you will be able to receive phone calls, track your fitness/workout progress, check email, check/view texts, listen to your music, check the weather and set alarms and timers. You will also be able to use the maps app, use your favorite virtual assistant Siri and use it as a camera remote with your synced iPhone (5 and higher).
Touted as the company’s most personal device and the first product designed to be worn, the Apple Watch is sure to sell like hotcakes just like most Apple products have in the past. You’re probably thinking, will it be a device for today’s savvy travelers? YES!
Even though the Apple Watch comes with pre-loaded apps, there are more apps available that you can download to customize your home screen to your lifestyle. A few of these apps will make your travels a lot easier. My favorite so far is the American Airlines app that will allow you to view flight details, tell you when to actually leave for your flight and show available boarding information. This cool app will also tell you (in-flight) how much time is left till arrival and what baggage claim area is designated for your flight along with any connecting flight information. Fabulous right? Click here and scroll down to see the app in action. My other favorite travel related app is the SPG app for Starwood Hotels and Resorts. This app allows you to view your Starwood account balance; check-in and wait for it…unlock your hotel room door! Who needs a key when you have an Apple Watch? (lol) Click the same link listed previously to see the SPG app in action. I can’t wait to try both of these apps! Other available travel apps include TripAdvisor, Open Table and Expedia.

So when can we get our hands on this little beauty?
Here’s the scoop…
- You can pre-order starting April 10th! (won’t arrive till 4/24)
- Watch is available in store on April 24th.
- Price range is $349 to $17,000 (that’s not a typo!)
I love the premise. I think it will definitely be a best seller and will cause sales of other fitness tracking products to plummet. I love the idea that I can pair/sync it with my iPhone and receive calls and send texts/messages from my watch. This will be fabulous for all of our travels, even daily travel. Just imagine when you are getting off a plane and need to call your spouse to pick you up, you’ll be able to do it from your watch while walking off the plane.

Be Happy. Be Fabulous. Be Well Traveled.
